Sexual medicine is a medical discipline concerned with the study, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of sexual health problems. It combines knowledge from gynaecology, urology, endocrinology, psychology, psychosexology and partner therapy, as sexuality is influenced by physical as well as emotional, hormonal and relational factors.

Sexual medicine treats a wide range of problems, including:

• sexual desire disorder (too low or too high sex drive)
• pain during intercourse
• problems with arousal or orgasm
• erectile and ejaculatory disorders
• the effects of hormonal changes on sexuality (menopause, pregnancy, postnatal period, andropause)
• the impact of chronic diseases and medications on sexual function
• psychological factors such as stress, anxiety, bad experiences or problems in a partner relationship
• problems related to gender identity and sexual behaviour
• counselling on healthy, safe and satisfying sex
